Episode 30 finds Lauren and Trey right in the middle of an incredibly fragile morning full of fear and worry. After several months in physical therapy for a hamstring injury, Lauren was encouraged to get an ultrasound of her ovaries to check for the possibility of ovarian cysts. While this is a common frustration for people with uteruses, Lauren's grandmother died of ovarian cancer and her nervous system took a tailspin at the possibility.
Lauren struggles to put words to her feelings, and Trey's response to Lauren's feelings has Lauren feeling feelings. Friends, you are getting the unfiltered and raw “morning after” hard news. At one point Trey mentions "having a great day" and Lauren’s whole body rejects the idea in favor of an "aware day." She shares how for 3 decades she was taught that a “joyful heart is good medicine and a broken spirit dries up the bones.” She tells Trey that she COULD have a “great” day, but she knows that’s not at all what her body needs.
Towards the end of the episode you'll hear Lauren mention another trauma-informed theory that’s been rolling around in her brain. She wonders out loud if her body is finally feeling brave enough to tackle her decade of sexual neglect. Trey and she talk about the wisdom of the pelvis and all the emotions that can become stored in our bodies.
