After reading DJ Billings’ article about blogging, I felt a renewed sense of inspiration and resolve. I had the pleasure of meeting DJ, at WordCampUS 2022 in San Diego. I was unaware at the time of their significant accomplishments as a blogger in the WordPress space.
DJ’s article is not only an excellent resource to share with clients but also serves as a valuable reminder for us, as web designers. It stresses the importance of maintaining a regular blogging schedule to educate both our existing and potential customers about our services and expertise.
However, DJ aptly notes that this advice may not apply to all website owners. Many of us who work with small businesses know that some maintain a website merely as a digital calling card, relying more on word-of-mouth marketing or other advertising methods. Nonetheless, reinforcing your expertise through blogging can never be overstated.
DJ emphasizes the importance of consistency in blog posting, a principle I earnestly try to uphold by aiming for a monthly post. Life does intervene at times, as DJ mentions, causing disruptions, but the intention always remains.
If you find it challenging to come up with blogging topics, leveraging artificial intelligence, like ChatGPT, can be a good starting point. While I don’t advocate for writing entire blog posts using AI, conversing with ChatGPT about your business, your offerings, and your location can help generate topics to enhance your local SEO or boost your niche presence. Often, just having the topics written down sparks the creative flow.
