This episode is a vulnerable and inspiring chat with Adam Miller. Adam shares his remarkable story of overcoming trauma and addiction and the importance of aligning spiritually to be our best self, regardless of the external circumstances we find ourselves in.
Adam talks about coming from a good family but one that had lots of mental illness, leading to his own personal experience with mental illness. In the absence of being able to get “the right” help early in life, Adam began self-medicating which lead to nine years of addiction. Adam shares his story of coming through that, beginning with a stint in rehab and the self-healing journey he has undertaken since in his quest for inner peace and joy in his life.
The thing that stood out to me most throughout Adam’s story, is his determination to seek answers, and find help and support in order to be the best version of himself. If you’re seeking some inspiration about the power of healing and the ability of individuals to overcome obstacles, then this powerful episode is for you.
Adam Miller has his own mind/body trauma practice called The Edgy Saint, which uses Somatic Integrative Therapy and Energy Work to support others in their healing. Adam believes that we are all saints, or saints in the making. But in order to realise our sainthood we have to embrace ourselves as we are. Not resist, suppress or deny anything, and not strive to be flawless and perfect, judging ourselves and feeling like failures along the way. We all have rough edges, differences and uniqueness in ways, and yet are all the same at the core. He believes the trick is to find the balance in all of it.
The researcher Adam speaks about, Peter Levine has a book called Waking the Tiger, which can be found on Amazon.
