It took me a long time to realise I had occupational burnout. I denied it for so long, how could that be me when I loved my job so much?
Only now am I really able to reflect on and tell my story. I was ashamed, embarrassed, and felt like I was too good for burnout. It sounds silly I know, but on the outside, I had it all going on, together. 'How do you do it?', people would ask, truth is, I wasn't. I was slowly destroying myself.
When I think about this time there are 3 things I wish I knew, 3 behaviours I was engaging in that just didn't serve me.
If this is you too, I get it.
I often get asked how I made it out of this space. What I can share is this, it is work, time, patience, and investment, I invested in numerous coaches, gave myself permission to do things I wasn't doing, like rest, and changed my behaviors. It was really hard, and for a number of years, I had to actively work on changing these things. Even now they can creep in if I am not careful.
Finding people who can help and support you is the most important thing to do xx
