THE LADY ON RUSSIAN HILL
Jane came to Hartshorne in 1886 to claim the family's allotted land from the Dawes Commission. Many immigrants were coming there to work in the coal mines. In 1897, Jane donated six acres of their land to immigrants on Russian Hill to build Saints Cyril and Methodius Russian Orthodox Church. As a Choctaw, she faced prejudice but she never let it defeat her.
