Hill's family includes chiefs of the Cherokee and Creek Nations. In 1956, she devoted herself to painting fulltime. Indian artist Dick West encouraged her to learn from traditional Indian cultures. Her stylized, acrylic paintings use palettes of neutrals, oranges, reds and purples to depict Native women. She has accumulated 270 awards for her art, making her the most honored female Indian artist. Her artwork is displayed in numerous American galleries and sell for several thousand dollars each.
