"I've been busy!"-What have you been busy doing? When the new year comes, do you take time to look at what you have accomplished? Or do you just move forward full steam ahead.
Lots of companies take some time around the holidays to show their employees how much they've done and how far they've come. Lots of people have a folder for their performance review to be able to tell their bosses what all they've done, how they've added to the team, the good things they've done. We don't tend to do that for ourselves though.
Even if for a small chunk of time, write out the things you've done and accompished for yourself, your family, organizations, etc so that you can have a visual of why you've beens so busy and what all you've accomplished. Its not bad to be humble, but we can still be proud of how far we've come over the past year. That way, when you tell people you've been busy, you can add to it "but i've come a long way."
When you have a written list of the things you've done, you can also use that to build on what you want the next year to look like.
