What would Lotus have missed out on if she hadn't followed her gut? It turns out, a lot. Learning to follow that gut instinct is hard, espeically in the beginning. You have to get past the fear by facing it head on, you have to get past the people who may not support you how you'd like. You have to tune out all the noise that is telling you ...you can't, won't, shouldn't, you'll never make it.
Fear stops a lot of people from doing what they want and being who they are. Most of the time, that fear isn't real. We make a bigger deal of it than need be.
How does one overcome? Tell the fear to "sit down and shut up" and then do what scares you anyway. The more you do it the easier it becomes.
Lotus gives us this perspective: if you can learn to trust yourself and go with your gut when its hard, think of what can happen when its easy.
