Description

We’ve seen the phrase “Black girls aren’t taught to date” all over the timeline — and it raised some real questions.

Were we taught how to build healthy connections… or just how to avoid getting pregnant and stay focused on school?

In this episode, Brandi and Domonique unpack what it really means to be “taught to date,” whether we were encouraged to explore relationships growing up, and why dating often looked different for Black boys than it did for girls.

We talk about protection vs. preparation, the “date to marry” mindset, and how skipping the learning phase can leave us figuring out relationships as adults. We also dig into dating as a way to learn yourself — your boundaries, preferences, and values — and whether relationship patterns are about “what you like” or simply what you were taught.

Honest, reflective, and necessary.
