On this episode Caroline, and Lusi are joined by Brook Earhart as they sit and talk with Ato Suzuki talking gender identity, intersex, and lgbtqia representation in the media. On todays episode we talk gender identity, sexuality, and lgbtqia representation with Ato Suzuk. Despite the fact that almost 1 in 8 young people identify as transgender or gender non-conforming, it is still a marginalizing experience for young people. The peer culture can be brutal for trans youth. Research with trans teens finds that 90% have been called a derogatory name during the past year, 50% have been physically harassed, and 25% have been physically assaulted because of their gender identityRepresentation for the lgbtqia community has decreased rates of suicide, anxiety, depression, and violence against lgbtqia people. We must stand up, speak, and ensure that all voices are heard, normalizing gender identity, educating, and giving marginalized people a platform to be seen and heard will begin to affect real change. ⸻
