Andrew Hall with Direct Access Marketers talks with Alicia Mahoney with Business & Clinical Management Services (BCMS) to help physical therapists and occupational therapists get their compliance right. With over 1112+ and 36+ years in business, Alicia goes over how they've started this consulting journey and essential tips to avoiding fines & penalties.
As a PT practice owner, your clinic is required to be compliant with federal law and regulations. There are requirements you and your staff need to be aware of, have documented, and are following daily.
Do you have an employee handbook or documents in place in case a specific accident occurs? Even the simplest things can result in reportable HIPAA violations. These violations can result in penalties costing your practice $30,000 per violation or a maximum of $1,500,000 annually.
There are other laws and requirements that also apply to your practice such as the Fair Credit Reporting Act, Civil Rights Act, and Age Discrimination Employment Act at the federal level along with numerous state, county, and city laws that govern how you employ, pay, provide benefits for, and even background check or drug test your staff.
The list continues if you participate in Medicare, Medicaid, or any private payer for reimbursement.
Each payer has its own list of requirements and compliance expectations which is all MANDATORY.
The responsibility falls in your hands as the clinic owner to have all these things in place, in writing, and made aware of to employees.
BCMS incorporates everything required by the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and the Department of Labor.
