This a conversation with Pastor Chris Balint about the topic of surrendering to Jesus in our lives.
Chris preached a sermon on January 8th about Surrender, and I wanted to follow up and process this further with him. We also included a live recording of the song we wrote last week about surrender.
Some quotes that were used:
"Surrender is not self reliance, but God compliance" (Chris)
"We think (of our) independence as being powerful, but with God, our dependence on Him is where we get our power" (Andrew)
“I am deeply convinced that the Christian leader of the future is called to be completely irrelevant and to stand in this world with nothing to offer but his or her vulnerable self" - Henri Nouwen
"True humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less." - C.S. Lewis
"Surrender brings: security, supply and satisfaction" (Chris)
Lyrics to Song: Surrender
Verse 1:
Lord, you hear me crying out,
In my weakness and my doubt
I will run into your arms
Lord, I kneel here at your feet, I need your strength to carry me
I raise my hands and will be still
Surrendering my will, I choose to lay my burdens down
My fears, my worries, and my tears
I will exchange to give you praise
Chorus:
Jesus, I surrender, to your will, and to your way
I will live to love you, I will listen and obey
Even in the darkest night, Jesus, you will be the light
Jesus I surrender all to you
Verse 2:
Lord, you fight for me today, Fill me up and show the way
I am safe here in your arms
Lord, give me the power that I need, your Holy Spirit leading me
I raise my hands and will be still, surrendering my will,
I choose to lay my burdens down
My fears, my worries, and my tears
I will exchange to give you praise
Chorus:
Jesus, I surrender, to your will, and to your way
I will live to love you, I will listen and obey
Even in the darkest night, Jesus, you will be the light
Jesus I surrender all to you
Bridge:
Jesus, you are…
Faithful in my future
Forgiving in my past, you are present in this moment
I am giving up at last
You are reigning King of Heaven
But you have called me friend,
You will not abandon me
You are faithful to the end
Chorus:
Jesus, I surrender, to your will, and to your way
I will live to love you, I will listen and obey
Even in the darkest night, Jesus, you will be the light
Jesus I surrender all to you
