Katharina von Schnurbein was appointed as the first European Commission Coordinator on Combatting Antisemitism in December 2015. The European Commission is the highest executive body of the European Union. As coordinator, Katharina Von Schnurbein acts as the contact point for Jewish communities and relevant organizations while contributing to the development of the European Commission's strategy to prevent antisemitism in Europe. She liaises with the EU member states, the European Parliament, civil society organizations and academia with a view to strengthening policies against antisemitism.
