Portia Louder began her career documenting weddings as a photographer. She became involved in real estate in 2004, and was later indicted for mortgage fraud. Portia received a seven-year prison sentence, and left her husband and their five children in Utah. While locked away, she captured her experiences through letters, journals, and blogs. Portia is passionate about sharing the strength and resilience of the women she met in prison, and speaks about her mistakes and what it takes to move past them. Portia and her husband reunited upon her release from prison and live in Utah with their children and grandchildren. Portia, “The Sunshine Girl,” as other incarcerated persons affectionately called her, speaks about redemption, resilience, and compassion. Portia got a deeper meaning of faith and friendship in federal prison, and shares about her experience in hopes that it will inspire us to open our eyes and hearts to the challenges and struggles of people generally, as well as those in prison and the formerly incarcerated persons.
