Description

In this episode we talk about our Wheelchairs and access.

Fresh from our Mudgee shoot where we had talent using wheelchairs, it just got me thinking … I am not a wheelchair users so I do feel a little ick talking about something I know nothing about but that is the point of disinfluencer, to talk about the things we know nothing about and that is what this episode is about.

Wheelchairs:

The invention of the wheelchair is attributed to an unknown inventor, and its origins can be traced back to ancient times. The concept of wheeled chairs to assist individuals with mobility impairments has evolved over centuries.

The first known use of a wheeled mobility device dates back to the 6th century in China, where a Chinese Confucian philosopher, Zhang Heng, reportedly created a wheeled chair for his ailing mother.

In Europe, the first recognizable wheelchair was developed in the early 18th century. It is often attributed to John Dawson, who was an invalid from Bath, England. This early wheelchair had large wooden wheels and a platform seat.

The modern wheelchair, as we know it today, has undergone numerous improvements and innovations over the years, with advancements in materials, design, and functionality. The credit for specific improvements is often shared among various inventors and innovators who have contributed to the evolution of wheelchair technology. The wheelchair's development is a collaborative effort spanning many centuries and cultures.
