The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has recently unveiled a new initiative aimed at re-skilling Malaysians to take up jobs in the growing digital economy. Specifically, this new initiative will provide companies with salary and training incentives to recruit graduates. As part of its ongoing efforts to boost the local tech industry, MDEC plans to sell the initiative in two stages. The first phase is set to launch on August 16 and the second phase on September 30, 2021.

The government has made a major investment in the mdec mydigitalworkforce programme, which aims to re-skill the local workforce. Currently, there is a severe shortage of digital skills, a major setback for local digital companies. The skills shortage has slowed growth and impeded the expansion of some MSMEs outside the Klang Valley and Selangor. The MDEC has responded to this shortage by introducing a digital skilling initiative called Let's Learn Digital. The initiative has received the support of global industry players, such as Coursera, which is a free platform that offers over 3,800 courses created by university and business teaching staff.

Malaysia's Digital Economy Corporation (MDEc) has launched a series of digital upskilling initiatives aimed at promoting a highly skilled workforce. Its Digital Skills for Tomorrow's Jobs initiative focuses on upskilling workers in everything from specialist programming to basic online searches. The initiative aims to improve the skills of workers by providing incentives and training. To apply, companies must register with the Digital Skills Training Directory and enroll the candidate in the Career Upgrade courses.

The MyDigitalWorkforce initiative is a part of MDEC's digital transformation drive. It aims to provide a high quality of tech talent and develop Malaysia's digital business services sector. The training programme will also offer job opportunities to reskill and upskill existing workforce. The programme will help unemployed talent build a better career in emerging industries. The initiative has been implemented in collaboration with Google, Facebook and LinkedIn.

To attract more fresh graduates into the digital workforce, the MDEC has launched the MyDigitalWorkforce Incentives (MYWiT) initiative. The incentives are aimed at encouraging the hiring of fresh graduates with relevant skills. Each employee will receive RM9,000-RM20,000 in compensation as a minimum incentive, paid monthly. The incentives are divided into two parts: salary incentive, which pays 40 percent of an employee's monthly wages for six months, and training incentive, which covers a minimum of 40 hours of in-house training. Upon identifying a candidate for training, the company will apply to Stage 2 of the initiative.
