Every year thousands of Jews would travel to Jerusalem for the Feast of Tabernacles. Each evening in the temple they would light these massive candles which sat atop seventy-five foot pillars. All night long the people would dance and celebrate. Jesus, using this as an opportunity, calls out to the crowd that what they are doing points to him because he is the light of the world and he is inviting us into the light.
