LandLife 70: How To Be A Professional Interpreter

Richard is a native Spanish speaker who was born, raised, and educated  in Puerto Rico.  During his early childhood, Richard learned to speak  English and has been translating professionally since he was 16.

His  early rise came when he competed in improvised oratory for the FBLA  (Future Business Leaders of America) where he also served as an advisor,  school vice-president, and regional president for said organization.   When he was 16 he was also granted the opportunity to travel to the  national level to not only compete but, to also serve as the  interpreter.  During his high school years, Richard also served as a  translator for Arecibo, PR earning him various awards and recognitions  from state and local agencies.

After graduating Ricardo joined  the US Army as a military policeman where he served as an investigator  and a member of the Special Reactions Team (SRT) in Missouri and South  Korea.  He also holds a 15-month deployment to Iraq in support of  Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation and Operation Iraqi Freedom  (OEF-OIF).

During his tenure in the Army, he was certified as an  interpreter/translator through the DLPT (Defense Language Proficiency  Test) which helped him advance through his career.

After serving,  Richard earned a BA in Criminal Justice and Organizational Leadership,  as well as a certification in Counterintelligence Operations from the  American Military University.  He currently holds a security clearance  since he works with various federal agencies around the United States.
