How do we deal with our inner critic?
Self-shaming ultimately undermines our fragile belief in ourselves, which then shatters our self-confidence, and leaves us stranded on an island of helplessness.
As Brené Brown puts it:
“Shame corrodes the very part of us that believes we are capable of change.”
Your inner critic is holding you back from leaping forward, and it’s time we loosen its grip on you. We can replace negative thoughts with positive thoughts, and that can help. RIGHT? But if your inner critic is fairly aggressive? Here are a few tricks to tame her and turn down the volume on her voice. Remember to turn up the volume of your positive voice! I know it works because I did it!
1. Start your day with a positive affirmation
2. Journal some of these negative thoughts and ideas to see if they are even true. (Mine were always a lie)
3. Give your inner critic a name and have a chat with her...
4. Start a gratitude journal and focus on positive things going on in your life. This will change your perspective and that is a start.
5. Meditate to become more mindful
6. Practice loving you and except you for who you really are.
As you grow into that mindset, you begin to embrace your uniqueness, move past self-judgment, and tame your self-critic. You start living a more fulfilled and content life knowing that you are you and you are whole.
