On our thirteenth episode we do our first official comedy and enjoy Nicholas Stoller’s 2008 banger ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’. Written by lead actor Jason Segel and Co-Produced by Judd Apatow, the story follows Segel’s Peter Bretter as he navigates the immediate aftermath of his being dumped all while finding himself on vacation at the same resort as his famous ex and her new rockstar lover. Trust me when I say this movie stands alone as the most accurate cinematic representation of the breakup/post breakup experience ever. In fact, back when I was active on Facebook I would always change my profile picture to a photo of Peter performing his Dracula musical whenever I went through a breakup. G bless…anyway! Join us as we share our initial reactions of the film (it is Zach’s first time seeing it), favourite moments, first post breakup flirtation experiences, the internal battle between archiving & deleting pictures, teeter totters (a metaphor), how it feels when one person moves on superfast, ‘love blindness’ aka ‘being in it’, when, how and if to initiate a first kiss, rebounding, nostalgia, how to properly heal, and cheating: is it ever if not acceptable, understandable?
We also dedicate energy into discussing the difference between theatrical/unrated cuts, how incredibly well paced this film is, it’s undeniable re-watchability, and the difficulties of ranking comedies compared to films of other genres. We also delve into the realms of elderly fashion statements, Canadian street cred/tax revenue/post services, how to properly wear shades, ticking clocks, playing the game, comedic bits, @aroundtheworldinwinnipeg, Vikings, my dad (of course), Tyson (double of course), tattoos, ‘bodies by Chris, Craig’s being a snack, seasonal glow up, fragrance X, green bubble texts, how poor finales ruin a shows legacy (70’s show/HIMYM), House of Gucci, how Jocelyn is essentially Khonshu from Moonknight, peepees, custom playlists, and if you had to what would you choose to live without: movies or music? Also, MET GALA fashion review anyone???
After this though, our next two episodes…let’s just say will be performed on CRUISE control (beyuuuuudoodoodododododoodoodododoodoododoodooo)
