After a brief hiatus we return with our fourteenth episode with an absolute banger! The number one box office phenomenon, the film of the year, Tom Cruise’s masterpiece, 2022’s ‘TOP GUN: MAVERICK’. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, and written by Ehren Kruger, Eric Warren, and Christopher McQuarrie, I instantly declare Top Gun: Maverick up there with Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Godfather Part II as the greatest sequels of all time. *Hot Take* Sequels that very well may be superior to the originals!! Debuting 36 years after the original, in this Top Gun we find now ‘Captain’ Pete ‘Maverick’ Mitchell doing what he does best, being DANGEROUS and maintaining his NEED FOR SPEED for over two hours! Join us as we share our initial reactions of the film, favourite moments, exchange Tom Cruise trivia, the sheer delight and power of a perfectly executed nostalgia, casting, cinematography, soundtrack and script especially when done right, TC’s legacy, correlation between danger and excitement, if any of us have what it takes to be fighter pilots, which is better Top Gun: Maverick or Top Gun/which has the superior beach scene, the magnificent manner in which they presented the ICEMAN Val Kilmer, and how much better everything is if it’s made with love.
We also dedicate time into discussing modern dental techniques, the extra hotness points one receives if able to twirl either a pen or toothpick, if the effectiveness of confidence is doubled if you’re hot, how Jocelyn spent her time away, moustaches, Jon Hamm, flooded basements, private schools, the iconic Tom Cruise Run, the training behind the filming of Top Gun: Maverick, actors and their…’training regimens’ and other fitness…we’ll say ‘gimmicks’, the Niverville Fair, the effect Maverick has upon my training, why Curtis Krahn is the worst person to get into a debate with, Val Kilmer’s Amazon Prime documentary, the struggle/challenge of transitioning from sequel to franchise while potentially removing key characters, Johnny Depp’s verdict, and Zach’s new heads up sevens up segment and how my sister apparently ‘discombobulated’ the gym two nights ago…
