Description

After a temporary hiatus we return for our seventeenth episode covering the Paul Thomas Anderson produced and directed ‘Mangolia’. Released in 1999, Magnolia can be described as ‘a mosaic of interrelated characters in search of happiness, forgiveness, and meaning in the San Fernando Valley’ and as I was the only one of us who had ever seen it before, I was excited for our review as I remember feeling quite divided and conflicted about it hence my major curiosity towards what Jocelyn and Zach would think!

Considering the film’s runtime and it being such a mosaic of characters we approached Magnolia with an entirely new format and discuss each storyline individually beginning with my man Tom Cruise! Starring in one of my favourite roles of his career Cruise shines as date guru Frank TJ Mackey (of which earned him an Academy Award nomination) alongside thespian powerhouses Philip Seymour Hoffman, William H. Macy (the personification of cringe), Julianne Moore, John C. Reilly, and Alfred Molina (DOC OCK) amongst others!

Join us as we share our initial reactions of the film, favourite moments, trivia/previous knowledge,  debate the effectiveness of music throughout the film along with the potential biblical implications of the ending...(dun dun dun). We also dedicate time into discussing Kenobi, Spiderhead, Inception, Saint Tropez self tanner, how to/how not to flirt, the ‘red pill’ mindset, Sad Boy Hours, Sandy Lyle, cuckolding, and reveal just how many times we have guest appeared in each other's dreams...
