Description

On our sixth episode Angelo (still reeling from Armaggedon's pitiful peformance) is taking a legitimate shot at redemption by busting out one of the big ones...Daniel Craig's first outing as Jimmy B, 2006's Casino Royale! Directed by Martin Campbell, Daniel Craig's debut is a masterclass of 007 delightfulness by ironically dismissing every previous ounce of understanding we have of the character by having James Bond be a fiercely beligerant rhino with every single thing he does! He crashes, smashes and splashes the pot with each opportunity provided to him all while utilizing no ridiculous toys or experiencing any interminable monologues whatsoever. He even treats 2/3 women he has a relationship with in this film with little to no mysoginism whatsoever! Straight up, from the moment it begins with his claiming double 0 status with a second 'considerable' kill, it is high octane as he proceeds to free run through Madagascar, thwart a terrorist attack, aggressively yell 'stairs', suck some fingers, create a beverage, win a poker game, crush his genitals, sink a building into the Venice canal all leading into the inevitable final crescendo where he debuts as final form, level 99 James Bond! 3 piece suit, OG theme and all! Needless to say, you can see why I chose this as the comeback flick! The slow build of development in terms of the narrative, his character + attire and even theme is an excellence of execution, a true chef's kiss! So join us as we finally expand upon my initial reaction of 'fucking love it' around the 20 minute mark sharing our favourite moments and quotes (of which there are MANY), thoughts of Vesper, her relationship with James (and how many times in my life I have replicated this exact dynamic/situation in my own life), Daniel Craig's workout routine, it's overall rewatchability and how Mads Mikkelsen suffers from what we will refer to going forward as the 'Hans Gruber Effect'. Naturally as you could imagine would happen, with such passion being shared, sparks flew, emotions ran high and one of us actually cried, and it wasn't Jocelyn...
