On our seventh episode we go off script, off kilter, and freehand with our complete *SPOILER* review of 2022's The Batman! Again, I repeat, this review will contain FULL SPOILERS and we hold absolutely nothing back. From our seating arrangement in the theatre and Zach's Twilight tattoos, to the filmography of the actor who from here henceforth shall be referred to only as 'The Battinson' we go all in and determine if this has just dethroned The Dark Knight as the ultimate Batman experience! From the first trailer featuring Nirvana (whose streams have allegedly spiked 734% thanks to The Batman), we each instantly recognized Matt Reeves brought his masterful directing pedigree to create the most authentic and graphic Batman film ever. Showcasing and channeling various glorious influences throughout its near 3 hour run time, The Batman demonstrates seasonings of Scorsese's Taxi Driver, Playstation's Batman: Arkhamseries, along with Fincher's Seven and Zodiac films allowing you to truly feel immersed in Gotham City. It also adapts more Batman comicbook accuracies than any of its predecessors with a beautiful tapestry of 'Year One', 'The Long Halloween', 'Zero Year' with the tiniest and tastiest easter egg at the end of a certain 5 issue run of the 'Legends of the Dark Knight'...
We also dedicate some time and attention into the all star supporting cast including Zoe Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Paul Dano, Andy Serkis with John Turturro finally shaking off the foolishness that was his involvement in the Transformers franchise and Colin Farrell having a Mcconaissance/Keanaissance worthy performance as The Penguin! Enough that Frank Manfredi himself had to turn to me halfway through the film and exclaim just how accurate Farrell's portrayal of a 'goomba' was (not to be confused with the small mushroom shaped enemy in Super Mario).
We also share the foundation of what I imagine could be a very entertaining drinking game based on things we have repeatedly said throughout our 7 episode run, 'a shot everytime Angelo says, Bapapapa' perhaps?
