Description

On our eighth episode we go full Jocelyn, which means we dove straight into the deep end of cult classic-ness as we reviewed one of her favourite movies ever, 2001's The Royal Tenenabaums. Directed by Wes Anderson, who is not only Jocelyn's 2nd favourite director ever (behind Tarantino) but of whom Zach considers 'GOATED' this film just could be Jocelyn's Casino Royale...as she has seen it over 12 times and showed up with more notes than any of us have ever had in the history of this podcast! As I had previously been unfamiliar with Wes Anderson's work I was unaware of the widely well known staples of his filmmaking and was constantly impressed with the compilation of bangers that served as the soundtrack, the exquisite color palette and nuanced symmetry in each aspect of the scenery, and the absolutely wonderful character work put forth by the all star cast! Led by the tremendous Bill Murray (who may have based the role off my grandfather Angelo), the cast of The Royal Tenenbaums is all time, and their interactions & relationships with each other truly serve as the heart and soul of the film. Witnessing them balance and experience such incredible success and tragedy while simultaneously searching for love and acceptance is magnetic to watch as they traverse themes including but not limited to depression, loneliness, deception, drug addiction, loyalty, suicide, success, death, loss, redemption, the struggles of both parenthood and childhood, and if it is morally wrong to fall in love with your adopted (but not biological) sibling...

Of course we also dedicate some time into discussing all the various ways and places Jocelyn trains (coincidentally none of them being Sweat Equity Fitness), how she once almost fought Justin Bieber, and why none of us find Gwyneth Paltrow likeable in real life. I think she lost us at her personal vagina candle...
