Following upon our grand return to the airwaves Zach Dyer is swinging for the fences as he believes few films are more deserving of the golden ticket than Damien Chazelle's 3x Academy Award winner 2014's Whiplash! Owning an impressive 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.5 on IMDB join us as we share our initial reactions, favourite moments, trivia/previous knowledge, unanswered questions, favourite moments, debate Fletcher's motives and if he is in fact a 'good natured/well intended' character and how your perspective potentially changes with every additional viewing. We also argue what is more important intent or execution, Andrew's decision to break up with Nicole, his obsessive dedication to drumming, if sacrifices such as this are required to be 'one of the greats' and if there are truly two words more harmful than 'GOOD JOB'? But where I believe the film truly shines is how although the premise is the pursuit of professional Jazz excellence it's message/overarching theme can be applied to so much more! I tell ya, substitute me for Rooster and jazz for MMA...oooof!!
We also have a delightful round of 'Zach's Movie Versus' (first for S2) and discuss the trials and tribulations of having big lips, the 'Sweat Equity Ghost', Zach Dyer's approach to fear management, if some instruments are inherently more sexy than others, masturbation and it's detriment to strength training, my friend Stephanie's wonderful short film 'knots', mind games, Burn After Reading, Laura Dern, Zach's (positive) experience in the Springs Band, Fletcher's outstanding insult game, La La Land, Colton's unfortunate sour cream incident and I take one last shot to redeem our long lost episode 19...#rip to POTC!
