"Just a fly in the ointment Hans, a monkey in the wrench. A pain in the ass…” a perfect summary of the iconic character of John McLane perfectly portrayed by the much adored (and returning for his 3rd appearance on our program) Bruce Willis, allow me to welcome you all to the official Film Buffs & Gym Rats Christmas Episode! And how else could we celebrate the most wonderful time of the year besides discussing none other than the greatest Christmas movie of all time…the one, the only…1988’s Christmas Epic, DIE HARD! Owning an appropriate (if not low) 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, a downright confusing 8.2 on IMDB join us as we share our initial reactions, favourite moments/quotes (of which there is an abundance), trivia/previous knowledge, unanswered questions, potential edits, how John McLane is Bruce Willis’ ‘Jack Sparrow’, the brilliance of the ‘everyman’ and 'classic husband' quality of both McLane and Willis, the scene stealing performance of Alan Rickman (truly magnificence personified), how Die Hard influened popculture (video games, films, television) and how Die Hard & Bruce Willis are a founding father prominently featured on the mount rushmore of action movies! Honestly, this movie has no business being as extraordinary as it is but everything about it is just MONEY! Pace, execution, character arcs, walkie talkies, A DOUBLE DOUBLE CROSS!?!? For real, you know when people watch LOTR and foam at the mouth for the opportunty to inform you how Viggo broke his toe kicking the helmet? That's me with Die Hard. Plainly put, by the end of this episode you’ll agree and understand why it may just be the best casting in cinema, why I’ve seen it at least fifty times, why I own it in every format imaginable, why it is the GOAT Christmas movie and why this is one of my favourite films ever!
We also reveal our secret Christmas gifts Nolan generously provided to us and discuss various Christmas traditions, if we experience seasonal depression, and if Christmas holds the same enthusiasm as you get older. We also indulge ourselves into certain subject matter as Zach shares an interesting dream he had (he may never look at gym bags the same again), how weed influences your subconscious, why so many people assume I'm homosexual, and laugh about a recent story shared at Sweat Equity Fitness that may just be a summary of the quickest physical romance in history! Legit.
