Good Leaders are Culture and Behavior Role Models. They exhibit the high standards of the interactions and treatment they expect in their organizational environments. In some settings there can be values that are visual and spoken and not emulated, rendering them powerless. However, in strong cultures and enduring cultures, there is mutual understanding and respect for the values and behaviors in culture. Good leaders must also be role models to demonstrate the importance of the expected behaviors and interactions to the organizational goals, mission, and influence. When leaders fail to model what they expect of others, it creates a disconnect and diminishes trust and respect.
What do we expect of ourselves? Why do we hold the values we espouse? What is he value proposition of our behavior for ourselves and others who may look to us for leadership and guidance. Being a role model is part of being a leader.
