Yesterday we talked about the importance and impact of having goals. Today, let's spend a little time talking about where our goals come from. Goals can many times come from our fears. We don't want to fail or let others down. Goals can come from our hopes. We have a picture of positive change for our futures. Goals can come from our confidence. We have confidence in our ability to do something and so we set a goal to do that thing or those things. The one thing they all have in common, no matter where they come from, is that they are always future facing. Our experiences help inform and shape our goals, and so our goals can change over time. It may be because we obtain a goal, or it may be because our priorities, or beliefs shift.
I have several goals, as I am sure most of you do as well. However, I have two goals that help shape my daily actions and interactions. My first goals to love and serve by sharing love, mercy, and wisdom. The second is to inspire positive change in myself and others. Both require me to think, learn, develop. and grow. These goals are driven by hope, and also my enjoyment of helping others and my joy of learning in order to share with others and apply things to improve my own quality of life.
If you take some time to understand what motivates you and what aligns with your future self, it will help to inform your goals and assure they are aligned with your future idea self and state of being.
