Happy Anniversary – THANK YOU!, Now, what are you going to start?
What difference will you make? What impact do you want to make – not he impact that others want you to make, or that others think will resonate with some large group, but the impact you want to have.
Helen Keller’s nurse focused on one student. Anne Frank wrote one book. There are many one-hit wonder musical artists. Some people have many ideas that lead to one breakthrough. Though it is a success or breakthrough for them, it isn’t really about them at all. It’s about the positive impact.
When I was young I recall my mother liked a hymn called Brighten the Corner. For a long time I thought it was Right in the Corner. The message of the song was that you could be a light to others by brightening the place where you were at and that your light could be seen from a distance. I can say that I have found that to be true in my life. When I recount the places I’ve worked, the people I have served, the organizations I’ve belonged to, I like to think that the service I offered made a unique difference.
I’m sure you have met people that have led lives of service or have just done their best and not given up, and in so doing they have inspired many. There are people of great wealth who choose to live in obscurity while practicing great generosity and philanthropy. There are teachers who give students extra encouragement and time, expecting nothing in return, only hoping to have some positive impact the will impact a life trajectory. The thing they all have in common, is that they are difference makers. They each had an intention to put out into the world the gift they had to give. In so doing, they’ve had positive impact.
One year ago today, I set out to share 2 minutes of helpful content for twenty days. Over time I been able to hone in on my goals of sharing, the content to be shared is meant to be inspiring, to help you think, learn, grow, and live fulfilled. I continue to share messages that I have found, and continue to find, helpful. It warms my soul when hear from listeners that they were encouraged, inspired, or gained new perspective. It hasn’t always been easy, but worthwhile things rarely come without some required change and learning. It has been fulfilling and even spurred some new opportunities and for that I am grateful.
We all have one life. We impact the people closest to us, the people at work, school, in various community groups, in our houses of faith. This week, take some time to think about the impact you want to have, let that be your motivator, let that shape your intention, and take action! “What are you waiting for? Pay no attention to the naysayers - focus on the people who need you and who will benefit from their interaction with you, your service, or your products. Make the positive impact!
