Episode 4-333: Self Awareness
There was recently a great article on self-awareness published by the Harvard Business Review. The article reported that although 95% of people think they’re self-aware, only 10 to 15% actually are.
I found that that to be a really interesting statistic! And perhaps not so coincidentally, it aligns with a topic I thought was important to share.
And that is, that just because people don’t say something about your interactions with them or others, it doesn’t mean they haven’t noticed. Sometimes it just means they don’t care to deal with it or don’t have the energy to deal with it, or don’t think it is worthwhile to deal with. Imagine that…incorrectly
assuming your interactions are appropriate or have no consequence and all the while they are negatively impacting your ability to really thrive in a
workplace, social, or personal setting! Being self-aware is intentional. We need to check-in with others and ensure we provide a safe space and some benefit
or gratitude and change. Knowing how to accept uncomfortable information about ourselves is important. While I certainly still believe that what people say and do is more about them than it is about us, being able to gracefully and critically accept information that can help us with our self-awareness is important to our personal and professional growth, and it critical to developing and maintaining good interpersonal relationships.
I believe being intentional about our self-awareness is another key to living a fulfilled life.
