Let’s Talk About Approachability and Feedforward

Welcoming Feedforward is important, because is allows us to be more self-aware of how we may be unintentionally impacting people.  Sometimes people don’t think the information
will be received constructively because of interactions they have already had or things that have been said.

When we make statements like, ‘We don’t care what others think’ or ‘That’s just too bad if they feel that way,’ it doesn’t make us seem approachable or appreciative of
receiving feedforward. 

So, it we really want to receive information from others that can help us do better and move forward, we must sincerely welcome feed forward, that we accept information with
appreciation and gratitude – even when it’s hard to hear.  Next we must consider what we can hold onto and what might be able to let go of.

So, the next time you are looking for feedforward and find you are not hearing the information you need, examine yourself to understand if you are really approachable.  Have you given people reason to doubt your sincerity? Have you given people a reason to doubt your stewardship of the very information that may actually help you with your blind spots. . Be Approachable.
