Episode 6- 457: One Bad Apple…
Let’s talk about taking tough action
A while back I saw a picture of an apple online. It was one of those perfect looking red apples, And then there was a second picture of the same apple from a different perspective that revealed the apple had a bite out of it. I was reminded of the song about one bad apple being able to spoil a whole bunch. Both of these visuals contain some good leadership and life lessons.
The first lesson learned is that we can’t always take things
at face value, especially when we are taking on something new. Taking time to investigate or research a matter will allow us to better understand the impact and and magnitude of a situation. It also allows us to hone in on the true issue and minimize negative impact. When we blindly proceed without investigating, it might lead to an undesired surprise that requires compromise or greater intervention.
Secondly, when we take care of things at the time that we see or anticipate an issue, it can lead to more problems or difficulties. Sometimes we underestimate how initially small matters may exponentially negatively impact a larger group or process. When we take action to address concerns as they arise, we likely end up addressing an issue while it is smaller, and so we use less resources to take care of a matter.
Taking action sooner rather than later, can sometimes be tough. However, it can allow us and those around us to use our resources of time more effectively.
I encourage you to stay mindful of the impact of “one bad apple” and to take action when you determine that there is an issue to be
resolved or a situation to be addressed.
When we take action and address issues, we make things better or ourselves and others.
