Delivering difficult news usually isn’t fun or easy, but it
is necessary.
When we must deliver difficult news or information, it’s important to understand the context of the message, the audience for the message, and the expected short and long term outcomes of the message.
When we focus on why we are delivering the message, who the
audience is, and what we expect both short- term and long-term, it will help us to better frame even our toughest messages.
This process also requires us to anticipate how the message might be received so that we can be more effective with our delivery style and word choices. We will be able to deliver our messages with the future in mind.
So the next time you have to deliver some tough news, focus
