Let’s talk about the process of waiting.
Not long ago, I was in several of those long lines at amusement
parks. You know those lines where you can’t exactly see around the corner and it looks like you are getting close, only to turn the corner and see more of a winding pathway. At some point in the process of waiting you wonder if you should keep waiting since you have invested so much time or if it might be better to move on and possibly find a ride with a shorter line or one with a more shaded wait.
No one really seems to like waiting, yet so many people go to these places where they know they will be waiting in line.
As I began to think about us paying great sums of money to subject ourselves to these lines and all of the waiting, I was focused on the allure of the experience that everyone hopes to have while between the lines or during the lines. I thought that this is a great metaphor for our lives.
There are things we must do to get to experiences we want to have, so we will have to give up some things along the way in order to move toward the experiences we want. One of the
greatest thing we will barter is our time and our talents. Along the way there will be some waiting and we will have choices on how to handle the waiting. One thing is for sure, that when we learn how to wait, how to utilize the time in between, things will go better and we might even have some priceless experiences
along the way that were only possible as a part of the wait. We may find that there is truly great value in our relationships and our maturity was positively impacted during “the wait.”
We must all keep in mind that things take time to process, life is
enhanced by all of our experiences and how we choose to utilize those opportunities created by our experiences. Nothing is wrong with the fast pass in life, but the reality is that even with the fast pass, there is often a wait and there is certainly a cost. We must wait for our time to check-in and figure out how we will use the time before we can check in to the fast lane, and so, it’s still
about how we choose to spend our wait. Of course, we must be on time, or the fast pass may not be able to be used.
Take some time to think about this metaphor of the allure of the
amusement park and our willingness to wait in the context of all the things you are waiting on in life. How can you use your
wait to your benefit or the benefit of others? Who can you help to have a better experience and perspective about the wait, what can you learn, who can you meet, can you get rest and refreshment to continue your wait from a position of strength and readiness? Waiting is just a part of life’s process, trust the process, learn how to wait in readiness. When we learn how to wait it we can live in the fullness that is contentment in the moment and hope for the future.
