Let’s talk about the importance of expanding from our foundations

Leftover from yesterday, consider that your experiences not
only help you uses the tools in your box, they equip you to use more tools.  Consider a barber or hairstylist who is giving you a trim. They pull out many different tools to cut and style your hair, versus getting your hair cut my Uncle Bob or Aunt Millie, with
scissors or a razor that likely need some sharpening.  Or consider an artist, who uses many brushes, other tools and mixes paint colors to create a masterpiece.  It is a far cry from the 8 box crayon set!  And so it is with our experiences, we start off learning to manage the basics and advance to operating where more
complexities exists and more critical thought and creativity is advantageous.

Let’s talk about the importance of what’s outside the box,
expanding from our foundations. When we know the basics of what is inside of our box and what is expected of us, we have the capacity to go beyond the basics.  We can use our depth of understanding to propel us forward.

It is great to follow the guidance and the rules, however, at some point one must move forward to uncharted courses to make advances and new discoveries.  When going outside of the box, the box still remains a constant reference point. There is much to be discovered for our benefit beyond what is currently known. I’ve told the story before about the newlywed who cut off the end of the roast before cooking it. She had seen her mother and grandmother do the same thing and she assumed this
was a necessary step.  However, when they asked the grandmother why she cut the roast, they learned it was because
her pan was too small to fit the roast. The newlywed and her mom had pans and ovens big enough to fit the whole roast. This is a reminder that the old way of doing things, while it might work, is not necessarily the best way for the current circumstances.

We must understand our resources and apply our learning and
creativity in a way that effectively progresses us forward and constantly considers our current circumstances.  When we
ensure we are knowledgeable about the impact of current circumstances, we can make choices and take action that is beneficial and relevant for the current situation and expected future situations. Be willing to think outside of the box and implement.  Remember, that each of us has a unique set of lived experiences that can help positively contribute to our situation.
