Episode 6 – 501: Wisdom Series-Preservation
Let’s talk about Proverbs, Chapter 2 Take Aways
Chapter 2 of Proverbs addresses why it is important to seek
knowledge and wisdom. In short, the Proverb advises that knowledge and wisdom will help us to be discerning and help us to avoid being involved in situations and circumstances that are not beneficial to our ability to live fulfilled lives. I think verses 10 and 11 of chapter 2 provide a nice summary of this idea. They
read:
(10)“When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is
pleasant unto thy soul, (11) Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee;"
In our lives it is easy to get wrapped up in things that don’t
serve us or others. Sometimes juicy information that is ultimately gossip can come disguised in a wrapping of information to bring knowledge and understanding. It is important that we welcome knowledge and wisdom, and that we exercise the discretion and understanding that it provides. Our use of discretion in the information we take in, and our understanding of the information we receive will help to keep us on a positive course that propels us forward.
So, for me, this is a great reminder of the importance of being discerning. We don't always have a choice to keep junk mail or unnecessary information from coming our way, but we can use our experience and knowledge to discern what we need to pay attention to and keep and what things we can let go by the way side or perhaps put away for possible future reference. Being a person who seeks and appreciates wisdom and knowledge is a good thing and it is beneficial to help us excel in our abilities and to be beneficial in our professional and personal relationships,
preserving them for the better.
