Let’s talk about Proverbs, Chapter 3 Take Aways
Chapter 3 of Proverbs provides insight on exercising mercy
while keeping hold of truth. It also speaks to holding on to wisdom and the value that wisdom can have for life versus only a pursuit of monetary wealth for wealth’s sake. Having an understanding of how to manage wisdom with all the benefits, including wealth, that it can bring is very powerful. It is a really insightful chapter and I thought I would pull verses 27 & 28 to focus on today. They are verses that speak to the responsibility of leaders and the impact we can have as leaders.
Verses 27 and 28 read: (27) “Withhold not good from them to
whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. (28) Say not unto they neighbor, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee.”
To me these verses speak to the responsibility and influence
of good leaders. When we are in positions or power, authority, and influence we can set a positive tone for the environments we lead. We can provide clarity for expectations, we can account for circumstances, and we can assess outcomes with respect. We can be kind and accountable. The second verse also speaks to timeliness of our actions. When we can do good, we should exercise it without delay.
I have had the experience to interact with organizations where leaders led responsibly and with grace and also where leaders exercised greed and devalued the efforts or others.
While no organization is perfect, without a doubt, the responsible and respectful environment yielded employees who seemed to be more engaged and interested in professional development.
So today, I just wanted share this take away and reminder
that when we are in leadership roles, we have the opportunity and responsibility to make a positive impact for the people and organizations we serve. Our organizations should be better because of the insights and decisions we employ as leaders.
