Let’s talk about Proverbs, Chapter 15: 1 -2 and Chapter 16:24
Chapter 15, verses 1 -2 read– “(1) A soft answer turneth away wrath, but grievous words stir up anger, (2) The tongue of the wise useth knowledge aright: but the mouth of fools poureth out foolishness.”
These verses really speak to the importance of how we use
our words and using them wisely. Here we see our words have the ability to prevail positively in tough situations AND
they have the ability to stir up problems. We see that there is intention to the use of language and words and that our wisdom and understanding allows us to use words in a beneficial manner. We are also advised that foolishness comes from those who don’t exercise wisdom and intention in their speech.
Chapter 16, verse 24 reads– “(24) Pleasant words are as a
honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones.”
This verse again highlights the persuasive power of words,
and that positive words have a positive impact on others. This easily translates into wisdom for all of our relationships, in that using words that build others up and acknowledging our positive regard for others can have positive impact. Positive words can actually bring positive energy to others.
So, let’s be encouraged this week to use our words with positive
intention, to diffuse anger, bring forth understanding, and build one another up so that we can bring the best we have to offer, and grow in knowledge and ability in the process.
