Proverbs Chapter 19: 4, 8 ,11, 20,
Every chapter of Proverbs is filled with so much wisdom and
chapter 19 is no exception. This makes it hard to choose just a verse or a few verses to highlight. I have decided to share verses 4, 8, 11, and 20 for us to take a look at the topics of favoritism,
Favor, Glory, and Wisdom. So, let’s dive right in!
Verse 4 – Wealth maketh many friends, but the poor is separated from his neighbor
This verse speaks to influence and it speaks to how shallow and
unstable some favor may be, especially if it is based in favoritism or
something like money that can come and go. It serves me as a warning to be
discerning in my relationships and be respectful and inclusive of others.
Verse 8 – He that
getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: her that keepeth understanding shall find
good.
This verse was one that spoke to the importance of what is
within one’s heart and mind and taking action. It also spoke to keeping our
search and application of wisdom and knowledge current and relevant. As we deepen
our understanding of things and use our knowledge in a proactive and positive
manner, it will help us to be ready for what comes next.
Verse 11 – the discretion of a man deferreth his anger, and
it is his glory to pass over a transgression
We always have the option to be in control of our emotions. We are reminded that how we interact with
others can impact how other see us. But more importantly, we are reminded that
when we give people grace for a shortcoming, that kindness may have a positive reciprocal
effect.
Verse 20: – Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou
mayest be wise in the latter end.
We are reminded that life is a journey and there is much to
be learned from others who are journeying with us. What we learn cannot be taken
from us and what we learn can help us to help others.
