Let’s talk about Proverbs, Chapter 24. Wisdom Series – Honey & Diligence
Proverbs Chapter 24:13-14, 30 - 34
Today our inspiration comes for the book of Proverbs Chapter
24. We’ll be speaking about the benefits of wisdom and our need to remain diligent in applying wisdom. We’ll be covering some longer passages than we have previously so I’ll get started and hope to keep us on time!
Chapter 24, verses 13-14 – (13) “My son, eat thou honey, because it is good; and the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy tastes: (14) “So shall thy knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.”
These verses both speak to the benefit of wisdom in living an
enjoyable life. Wisdom enriches us and provides us a means to experience great delight. Consider a time when you had deep understanding and appreciation for something, perhaps a piece of art, a great meal, or a delightful book. Our understanding allows us to receive greater joy and so it is with wisdom in our lives. Perhaps you have gratitude for the lie lessons you have learned that allow you to have greater ease or peace in life.
Chapter 24, verses 30 – 34 – (30) “I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
(31) And, lo, it was all grown over with thorns, and nettle had covered the face thereof, and the stone wall thereof was broken down, (32) Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction. (33) Yet a little sleep, a little slumber: (34) So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth; and they want as an armed man.”
These verses both speak to our need to exercise wisdom and
to be diligent, mindful, and to maintain watch over our responsibilities. When we don’t seek knowledge and do not have an understanding of what is needed to tend to our affairs now and in the future, it can cause problems. When we decide to take a little rest and continue to put things off, those things will
not repair themselves, and in fact, destruction may come more rapidly. Likewise, when we spend without replenishment
of earnings, or we reap without sowing, it makes for a bleak future. So we see the importance of diligence in learning and applying knowledge and the importance of keeping watch over the things for which we have responsibility.
So, be encouraged that the effort and work we put into gaining and applying knowledge will have some benefit. And know that we must remain diligent to ensure the upkeep and relevancy of our knowledge.
