Let’s talk about Proverbs, Chapter 25. Wisdom Series – Words & Honey
Today our inspiration comes for the book of Proverbs Chapter
25. We’ll be speaking about the value of words and indulging in life’s pleasure. So, let’s get to it!
Chapter 25, verse 11 reads: (11) “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.”
This verse highlights the value of the of the spoken word can bring value to others. Our words can be treasured by the recipient as something to positively reflect upon. Words of value can cause someone to change their course of action, or continue in a positive direction, or to consider a broader scope of things. Words can hold great value. So we are reminded to be intentional when we speak.
Chapter 25, verses 16 & 27 read: (16) “Hast thou found honey? Eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest though be filled therewith, and vomit it.”” and (27) “It is not good to eat much honey: so for men to search their own glory Is not glory.”
These verses both speak to how we manage the good and/or valuable things that are for us to use and enjoy. When the positive circumstances of life allow us to partake, that can be a good thing as long as we don’t over indulge in a manner that will bring us or those around us harm. The second verse reminds us that it is not going to allow the positivity in our lives to put us in a position where we seek out honor for ourselves. Nothing is wrong with recognition from others, however if we are soliciting recognition for the purpose of elevating ourselves above others, that self promotion will likely not be effective or enduring.
So, be encouraged that we can bring positivity with words spoken intentionally, and it is a good thing to enjoy the pleasures of this life, in moderation.
