Let’s Talk About Leaving a Legacy
This episode is dedicated to the memory of one of my high school classmates, Sharmin who passed away last week. Sharmin loved her son fiercely and left a legacy of authenticity, positivity, and empowerment. She took time to appreciate the beauty in others and the beauty of things around us. I will miss all her posts on Facebook, which left a beautiful legacy of her character.
So, let’s talk about accepting the challenge of leaving a legacy. Do you ever think about how your words and actions will impact others now and in the future? It’s important to think in these terms because it helps gives us
perspective about the impact we have and what things matter. Have you ever noticed a small child mimic the
actions of the adults around them? Or maybe you’ve noticed an employee mimic the behavior of a prior supervisor. What we do matters not only for ourselves but for those who will be impacted by the outcomes of our actions. We can help pave a way and clear a path forward for those who will come behind us. We can help set up others for success, so that they can learn from the lessons we have already experienced. We can leave an example of how we have learned to approach life and work.
When we learn life lessons, sharing those with others that might benefit, can help to leave a beneficial legacy.
When we make it through tough times, being authentic about our experiences can help others. When we are unsure, showing our vulnerabilities in a safe space can help to leave a positive legacy. How we choose to spend our money and time, leaves a legacy about what we think is important. So, as you make decisions about the things you choose to do, and the words you choose to say, think about what legacy that will leave. Are those behaviors and words the things that you want to characterize you and will they
be beneficial in the future? Will you accept the challenge of being intentional
