Briana Bowley chats with legally blind world champion and karate 'Sensei,' Ray Morcomb about his journey through the sport and his views of the martial arts world.

Raymond began training at 8 years of age with Castle Hill Karate Club. He was quickly hooked. His karate-training buddies from these early years remain close to this day.

He began training on scholarship at the Sydney Academy of Sport and the NSW Institute of Sport for Elite Athletes from aged 16. He trained hard with Sports Scientists and improved his physical performance but most importantly gained an education in the mechanics of martial arts.

As a direct result of the improved training methods Raymond began placing in major tournaments around the world. Such experiences readied him to arrive in Paris, France and perform his favourite kata 'Unsu' in front of 16,000 spectators at the WKF World Championships in 2012 – one of his all-time karate highlights... and to win gold at the first world championships for Athletes with a Disability 2 years later in Bremen, Germany.
