The year is the early nineties. Which is roughly as far away as it is to 2050. so it is a long time ago if you think about it.
The early nineties, for those not accustomed, was a place where you would either bash or be bashed. It was a very binary landscape and it would take one hero, Cyberboi, to break this cycle and lead us proudly into the new frontier of the analogue millennium.
