Key Takeaways:
1. Home birth is expensive. If you break down your payments into 30 weeks it's really not that bad. Especially if you can plan ahead before you get pregnant. But, even if you wait until you're close to 30 weeks, that's between $150-$230/week. Some midwives may even work out other payment options if you can't pay in full by the time you reach 40 weeks.
2. The dangers of home birth are not near as severe as the dangers of a hospital and the interventions you are more likely to encounter including induction, epidurals, cesarians, Pitocin, breaking your water, and more.
3. If you are desiring an all natural child birth then pain is something you have thought about. When you are in an unfamiliar place with unfamiliar people, it will be much harder to relax and allow the pain endorphins that our body naturally releases to flow. When you are in a familiar place with people you trust, those natural pain killers work to relieve contractions and allow you to relax therefore allowing labor to move along avoiding potential interventions you'd likely receive at a hospital.
4. Hippies aren't the only ones that have home births! If you know you don't want an epidural, you want a natural child birth, then home birth is for you!
5. Birth is messy no matter what but when you have trained professionals who have cleaned up hundreds of births, they have this routine down pat! I've never noticed a mess after my births. I didn't even see the trash or know what they did with the placenta after my first two births.
6. Hospital births are not safer. The statistics show the home birth is safe, and in most cases, a safer option especially when you're considering the mother's emotional well-being. BUT, regardless of medical studies and what the numbers show, YOU ARE NOT A NUMBER and you don't have to fit into a box to be a candidate for home birth.
