Welcome to The Feed from Geek Mountain, Episode 25!
Another stormy day on the mountain this week, folks! The crags are treacherous (I'm pretty sure I've used this metaphor more than once) and created a difficult path... but is it real? Video games from our childhood typically had one difficulty setting: Start. That was it. You would just pick a game up and play. The evolution of modern single-player games and their developers implemented difficulty settings after realizing that gamers actually LIKE to finish their games! What happens when these difficulty settings are poorly executed by just moving numbers around between the main character and the enemies? ARTIFICIAL DIFFICULTY! This week, we discuss a few games from our childhood to the present and get to the bottom of this debate! Is Expert-level difficulty the true way to play a game or should games have difficulty settings at all? Find out these answers and more on the Geek Mountain!
Thanks for listening!
