Description

Today we’re exploring concerns about the safety and treatment of women on college campuses, particularly in fraternity culture. This discussion with Dr. Alyssa Herrera-Set and her daughter, Nadia Herrera-Set, a student at Northeastern University, highlights the disrespectful conversations and objectification of women that occur among some fraternity members. We explore how these disrespectful views of women arise among fraternity brothers (and young men in general) in the first place, along with the potential double standards in conversations among young women about young men. The conversation also delves into the process of reporting sexual assault and the challenges victims may face, including what to do right after experiencing SA, and how the process is in dire need of being improved. We close by talking about the impact of SA on Nadia’s daily life, and the importance of taking steps for personal safety, as well as the need for support and change in addressing these issues.
