Humpty took a tumble
Rosie sat with Humpty the egg-shaped man, she really loved to hear him talk
Marveled how he would say things, smiled when he asked her to go for a walk
Walked around the lake, climbed the hills, soaking sun sitting on a bluff's ledge
She left for a minute that turned into months, poor Humpty he rolled off the edge
Oh! No, this ain’t the way things were s’posed to end
She said she really wants to try and fix things again
Standing with a teardrop, holding a glue gun and a piece of shell
Poor Humpty took a tumble and friends he’s not looking too well
All his pretty words are scattered like a jigsaw puzzle strewn across the dirty ground
Fragments from the shell of the man she loved to hear, but now he doesn’t make a sound
Lamenting her decision not to say anything to him, what in the world was she was thinking
A beautiful day, people smiling sun is rising; She doesn’t care as her lonely heart is just sinking
Cause this ain’t the way things were s’posed to end
She said she really wants to try to fix things again
Standing with a teardrop, holding a glue gun and a piece of shell
Humpty took a tumble and friends he’s not looking too well
Remembered all the words he told her as he would hold her, something to be learned
Come in when it’s raining, you won’t get much heat from a log that’s already been burned
Love can’t be bought or sold, borrowed or created, imitations are all you get from those ways
Find a lover to dance life’s grand waltz with, find one who swings whether or not the music plays
Cause this ain’t the way things were s’posed to end
She said she really wants to try to fix things again
Standing with a teardrop, holding a glue gun and a piece of shell
Humpty took a tumble and friends he’s not looking too well
He smiles through the cracks
Maybe he misread the facts
Lying in pieces as she feverishly tries to re-assemble
He struggles to speak; she finds herself starting to tremble
No rush for words Humpty, Rosie isn’t going away again
Got it all straightened out and she’s sticking around till the end
Rosie said trust me honey this ain’t the way things are going to end
You know I think this time she really wants to try to fix things again
As she stands with a teardrop, holding a glue gun smiling cause she did well
Humpty took a tumble, Rosie got him on the mend and now everything is swell
Humpty took a tumble, yeah, I think he’s going to be okay
