I’m sitting outside
I’m sitting outside, I hear the rhythm of the rain
And all I can see is that awful divide
Fear, hate, anger once bottled up inside
Rained down across our nation causing so much pain
I’m sitting outside, I hear the rhythm of the rain
Oh! God let it wash this ugliness away
Pour down some love and let it stay
We can all enjoy those amber waves of grain
I’m sitting outside, I hear the rhythm of the rain
If you focus and just relax, you can truly hear
There’s a path to defeat this hate and fear
See each other as brothers and erase this ugly stain
I’m sitting outside, I hear the rhythm of the rain
Come out and join and let’s all be friends
Make this the day generalization ends
No more N word, no more “they” ever again
I’m sitting outside, I hear the rhythm of the rain
Watch the plants, lawns and trees grow
We would do well to learn what they know
Take the blessings from the sky, wash racism down the drain
I’m sitting outside, I hear the rhythm of the rain
Waiting on the sun to shine its loving on us all again
